Before thinking about a walk-in closet design, it is necessary to decide where such closet will be located in the house or apartment. Walk-in closets are usually either in or near bedroom and usually have no windows, although there are exceptions to this rule. The following requirements for storage space should be taken into account:
- Sufficient area. At least 4-5 square meters need to be allocated to end up with a comfortable and spacious walk-in closet, but smaller ones can be built, too.
- Good ventilation. A walk-in closet should benefit from good ventilation, because long-term storage of fabrics and leather requires special conditions.
- Easy to clean. The closet surfaces need to be easily washable to avoid any accumulation of dust.
Walk-in closets can be equipped with open shelves or wardrobes and drawers. Bedroom walk-in closet designs now include ready-made furniture systems with all the necessary elements, such as containers, drawers, racks, shelves, rails, etc. It is, however, better to hire a professional interior designer who can come up with a functional and aesthetic walk-in closet design.
